Rajkot: A former engineer of the Amreli water supply department has been arrested for involvement in an eight-year-old scam of siphoning Rs 8.5 crore.Vijay Patel, who was arrested from his residence in Bardoli by Amreli police station officials on Saturday, had allegedly siphoned off the money by submitting the bills of the projects which were only on papers and which had never seen the light of the day from 2007 to 2009.Apart from Patel, others involved in the scam have been identified as Chandrakant Barot, executive engineer of Amreli water supply department, Bharat Bandhara, executive engineer of the department, Manji Sandapa, executive engineer of the department, Padmakant Rawal, executive engineer of the department, Madhudas Kubawat, accountant of the department, Vimal Kathiriya, owner of Vimal Constructions, Vipul Raiyani, owner of Jagdish Construction, Jaimin Construction, Ankur Construction, RK Construction, KK Sorathiya Construction and Awadh Construction.“The others involved in the scam had moved Gujarat HC and obtained a stay against their arrest.
