Palanpur: A cotton trader from Maharashtra was robbed of Rs 7.42 lakh cash at gun point near Prantij town of in Sabarkantha district late on Saturday night.At around 11.45pm, seven armed men intercepted the MUV of trader Sajid Khan Mewati who was going to Harkul village with his friends Lala Bamaniya, Rauf Khan Mewati and Ghulam Hussain Bhatti. Mewati, who belongs to Silod village in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, is a commission agent of cotton and works as a middleman between factories and farmers,” said Patel.Vigil has been stepped at all the check-posts in the district. They were returning after selling cotton at a ginning mill in Nani Kadi, 30 km from Prantij.Police Inspector KB Patel of Prantij said, the miscreants who had covered their faces thrashed the four with sticks and smashed their vehicle’s cabin. Two of them held a gun at them and snatched the bag containing the cash and fled with the booty.“The traders had purchased the cotton from Tajpura village and were returning to their place of lodging after selling the consignment at Pashupatinath Ginning Factory at Nani Kadi.
