The accused would lure the victims with the promise of doubling their money. “We have alerted our counterparts in Vadodara and told them to secure the custody of the accused wanted in the case reported in their city,” added Khatana. Then, they would pull out actual currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 denominations.“The bucket had a secret chamber at its bottom, and when nothing was visible inside the black water, the accused would pick out the actual currency notes from it. “We sent a cop decoyed as a customer to the accused, and while they were giving him demonstration with a bucket and water, the cop exposed them by emptying the bucket and finding the secret chamber. After taking money from the victims, they would tell them that it was a long procedure and they would call them, once their money had doubled, and then they would do the disappearing act,” said Nitin Khatana, head constable with Bhavnagar special operation group.The accused were arrested following a tip-off about them in search of victims in Mahuva.
