The secret behind the village’s resistance against the deadly virus is high percentage of vaccination. “The credit for less infection goes to maximum vaccination. Almost 85% villagers above the age of 45 have been vaccinated,” informs Prant officer C K Unghad.
Nana Ankadiya village lies just 8kms away from Amreli town. Many among the village’s population of 3,100 daily visit Amreli for employment purpose or purchase of essential commodities that are not available at Nana Ankadiya.
Despite the proximity and dependence on Amreli town, the second wave of Covid-19 hasn’t created the kind of havoc at Nana Ankadiya like it has at other parts of the state. Only 20 from the village have tested positive for the coronavirus in the second wave and none of them needed to be hospitalized.

Nana Akadiya village has witnessed just two deaths in last three months, both of them because of ailments related to old age. “The village has zero-casualty due to Covid. The village crematorium is used to cremate Covid bodies from Amreli city. A team of villagers also collect woods for this purpose,” Unghad added.
Despite the low Covid numbers the village is not letting the guard down. The village has 10-bed Covid Community Centre for those who need isolation. There is no charge for admission at this centre and food is also provided by the village panchayat.
Damji Javiya, the sarpanch of the village said, “We are observing people’s health in consultation with the health department staff. They do home-to-home surveillance and prescribe medicines. We ensure that people get tested at the initial stage and suspect patients are isolated early.”
