Our college was receiving around 13-15 students for the last two years and this prompted us to close it," said an official.Meanwhile, seven college staffers are opposing the trust's decision.

Surat: The education department has decided to close down Vanita Vishram Primary Teachers Certificate (PTC) College here from this academic year. The decision has been taken at the request of Vanita Vishram Trust. Though fresh admissions for the first year will not be offered in the college, those in second year will be allowed to continue studies. This year, in the first round, 76 students had submitted forms for admissions in the college which has a total of 50 seats. However, no fresh admissions will be made, college sources said. "The trust had proposed in 2013 that due to reduced interest in PTC course, the college should be closed. Majority of the PTC colleges in south Gujarat have closed in the recent past. Our college was receiving around 13-15 students for the last two years and this prompted us to close it," said an official.Meanwhile, seven college staffers are opposing the trust's decision. Their protest in 2016 against the decision had forced the trust to postpone the college's closure. The students studying in the college are also against the decision."This year, 76 students applied against 50 seats and majority of them are likely to take admission. It is a grant-in-aid college. We are not aware why the trust wants to close it down when students are still coming," said a teacher.
