Rajkot: Port town Kandla in Kutch is all set to get more flights.Federation of Kutch Industries Association (FOKIA) has got this assurance from the Union ministry of civil aviation new flights from Kandla airport.Private airline Indigo and state-run Air India are in the process to starting operations from Kandla to Ahmedabad and Delhi.Managing director of FOKIA Nimish Phadke told TOI, "Viability and market survey was completed and flight operators are ready to begin operation. Civil aviation ministry have given a nod for more flights."A delegation of FOKIA recently met minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha. "We have have big industrial zone and require more infrastructure. The air connectivity from Kandla is very poor. So we had demanded more flights from Kandla," Phadke added.Kutch has commercial flights operating from the military airbase of Bhuj where the activity is restricted. Kandla airport is very small and recently under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka har Nagrik) scheme, flight operation between Kandla and Mumbai had commenced. This airport is spread over 268.2 acres and has a terminal building capable of handling only 100 passengers at a time.
