Veraval locals call for election boycott over drainage woes

"During last elections local BJP leaders had assured that our problem will be resolved, but till date nothing has been done," he said. The society members have even put up banners calling for the ban on voting.This has sent shock waves in the local BJP cadre.

Rajkot: Residents of Lilashah Nagar Society in Veraval town of Gir-Somnath have decided to boycott the forthcoming assembly election over lack of underground drainage system and overflowing gutter, the problem they said has persisted since past 20 years despite several representations.The society consisting of 140 houses of Sindhi community, mostly supporters of BJP, has passed a resolution to boycott the assembly polls. The society members have even put up banners calling for the ban on voting.This has sent shock waves in the local BJP cadre. "We have received calls from BJP members, asking us to remove the banners. However, we have told them that till underground drainage system and the problem of overflowing gutter is not solved, we will continue the agitation," said society leader Ravi Pehlajani, a businessman."We have made several representations to the Veraval municipality in this connection in the past, but to no avail.
