Rajkot: As protests erupted over a cartoon scoffing at Prime Minister Narendra Modi circulated by Youth Congress, BJP's national spokesman GVL Narasimha Rao came down heavily on the Congress saying that the party should maintain the dignity of the PM's post."It's an insult to the PM and mockery of people. In a democracy, you can't abuse the PM. This shows the vile culture of the Congress," Rao said, addressing media persons in the city on Wednesday.The cartoon in the online magazine shows Modi wrongly pronouncing the word 'memes' while conversing with US president Donald Trump who corrects him while UK Prime Minister Theresa May advises him to "sell tea".Targeting Rahul Gandhi, Rao said, "He does not see the threat to India from Lashkar-E-Taiba, honours Hafiz Saeed but abuses the PM. "Do only English speaking people like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor and P Chidambaram, who have studied in foreign universities, the right to rule? This is a colonial mentality," he said. To a question on Rahul's temple visits during his Navsarjan Yatras in Gujarat, Rao said, "It's his compulsion now to visit temples. Aurangzeb had demolished temples but after seeing resentment among people, he built a few to appease them. Allauddin Khilji to did the same."Asked to comment on Rahul's elevation as Congress president, Rao said, "Despite having no potential, he has been heaped upon the party."Rao also hit at the 'Vikas Gando Thayo Che' campaign saying that by latching on to this Congress has maligned the image of the state.Talking about Gujarat, Rao said that Narendra Modi, as the chief minister, has changed the landscape of state."In 1980, the atmosphere on Ahmedabad roads was like like the present Iran or Saudi Arabia." Regarding farmers issues, Rao compared the condition of farmers between Congress-ruled Karnataka and Gujarat. "Both are groundnut growing states. In Gujarat, the government has declared the minimum support price (MSP) while in Karnataka farmers are committing suicides after being forced to sell the crop and meagre prices."
