Gumla man gets death sentence for Ranchi minor's rape, murder

Police registered a case based on the statement of the victim's father and arrested Gandhi as a suspect. The convict was an acquaintance of the victim's father and used to visit his house. Gandhi managed to escape from the police custody on March 20, but was rearrested from West Bengal on March 24. On March 19, he lured the victim from home by promising to treat her with tasty delights. RANCHI: Additional judicial commissioner (AJC) of Ranchi civil court Justice AJC Shiv Pal Singh on Monday awarded the death sentence to a man for raping and murdering an eight-year-old girl in the Lower Bazaar are of Ranchi in 2014.The judge gave the punishment to Gandhi Oraon , a resident of Khorai village in Gumla district, under Section 302 of the IPC after finding his crime as rarest of rare. Oraon was also sentenced to life term under Section 376 of IPC, Section 6 of Protection of Child From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and five years rigorous imprisonment under Section 201 of IPC. The court had convicted Oraon on January 31.Special public prosecutor ( POSCO ) Asok Kumar Rai said: "On March 19, 2014, Oraon raped the minor and then smashed her face with stones. The victim succumbed to her injuries. The convict was an acquaintance of the victim's father and used to visit his house. Both worked as helpers in passenger buses. On March 19, he lured the victim from home by promising to treat her with tasty delights. Her parents launched a search when she did not return at night, but could not find her," Rai said.The body of the girl was recovered the next day from a cemetery at Khadgadha. The body had injuries marks at several places, including her private parts. Police registered a case based on the statement of the victim's father and arrested Gandhi as a suspect. Gandhi managed to escape from the police custody on March 20, but was rearrested from West Bengal on March 24.
