Food, festivities and 'mishti mukh' on Poila Boishakh

At Union Club and Library, a century-and-a-half old Bengali institution in Ranchi, there was a musical evening starring Biswajit , a Kolkata based artiste. Local clubs organised musical evenings hosted by artistes from West Bengal complete with hit Bengali numbers. While hundreds flocked the local Durga Bari for morning rituals and offered their prayers to the gods on the new year, many took the opportunity to go sweet-hunting in the capital.
