"He added, "An award ceremony should be organised to felicitate the officers who were in charge during the civic elections for their inefficiency and the poorest of poor management skills. The cardinal had to return without voting as his name was not listed in the voters' list. Cardinal Telesphor P Toppo and JMM leader Hemant Soren , were two prominent voters who faced harassment when they went to cast their vote.

RANCHI: State urban development and housing minister C P Singh on Wednesday wrote a letter to the state election commissioner regarding the poor management of the civic polls on April 16.Singh wrote, "If officers were to be short-listed for their inefficiency and poor management skills, then the preparation of the electoral rolls for the municipal elections in Ranchi would have been the appropriate platform."He added, "An award ceremony should be organised to felicitate the officers who were in charge during the civic elections for their inefficiency and the poorest of poor management skills."The minister pointed out the various problems faced by voters on the day of election like not being able to find their names in the booth, being listed in a different ward and such other issues.Singh also said the officers did a delimitation of wards without visiting the field which led to confusion. He pointed out how the names of voters were included in booths far away from their residences. "Members of the same family were sent to vote in different booths and even wards. Some of the names were eliminated from the voters' list altogether. This is infringement of the voter's rights and shows how the officials did not do any kind of survey and prepared everything just sitting in their office," the minister said. Cardinal Telesphor P Toppo and JMM leader Hemant Soren , were two prominent voters who faced harassment when they went to cast their vote. The cardinal had to return without voting as his name was not listed in the voters' list. Soren and his wife could not find their names at their polling centre and had to go to a different centre.Singh said, "I have written this letter to the election commissioner to ensure that such problems do not recur."
