PM to lay foundation for AIIMS Deoghar on May 25, says Jharkhand health minister

“We will request the Union health minister to sanction another AIIMS once the current one nears completion,” he said. RANCHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the construction of the recently sanctioned AIIMS regional center in Deoghar during his scheduled Jharkhand visit on May 25, Jharkhand health minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi said on Tuesday.The plan for setting up of the state-of-the-art hospital was approved by the Union cabinet during its meeting on May 15. He will travel to Dhanbad and lay the foundations for several projects of the state and Union government. Jharkhand government is yet to officially announce about the projects whose groundwork will be inaugurated by the PM.Chandravanshi said the hospital will contribute immensely towards providing quality healthcare to the people of Jharkhand. Though the state government is building six new medical colleges in phased manner, Chandravanshi on Tuesday announced that his ministry will push the Union government for sanctioning another AIIMS regional-center in the state.

The project, being funded under the Pradhan Mantri Swasth Suraksha Yojana, will draw a capital expenditure of Rs 1,103 crore from the Union budget.Speaking to reporters at his office in Nepal House, Chandravanshi outlined the facilities that the new hospital will have. These include 750 beds with a trauma center, 15 operation theaters, 20 super-specialty departments and a 30 bed Ayush center.“The MBBS course will start with 100 seats at first. There will also be a 60-seat nursing college. The campus will have residential quarters, hostels for undergraduate, post-graduate and nursing students, auditorium, guest house, a night shelter among other facilities,” the minister added.The hospital will be set up over a 236.92-acre plot in Devipur block of Deoghar. “The hospital will have 10 specialty departments, namely: general surgery, general medicine, pediatrics and neonatology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, psychiatry, hematology, ENT, gynecology and physical medicine and 10 super-specialty units,” Chandravanshi said.Modi is scheduled to be in Jharkhand on May 25.
