Jharkhand government signs pact with 3 NGOs to improve school education

RANCHI: The Jharkhand government on Wednesday signed three memorandum of understandings (MoUs) with NGOs working in the school education sector on a zero investment innovation model. “The initial target for 260 schools will be expanded to all 6,000 schools with secondary section in the state in the coming years. We have identified another 7,000 schools in the state with enrolment of less than 30 students which will be merged in the second phase of school mergers.” The NGOs will work in different avenues of school education that need improvement with only administrative support from the government and no financial investment Chief minister Raghubar Das , who was present during the signing of MoUs, said: “These NGOs have come forward with innovative ideas that could transform the face of education in the state. We are now targeting to open a senior secondary school with adequate number of subject teachers in each panchayat in the state by 2022.”A P Singh, secretary (school education and literacy), said: “The state’s school education set-up is undergoing a revamp with the department consolidating and merging schools with fewer children into larger schools to make the best use of available resources.

The NGOs will work in different avenues of school education that need improvement with only administrative support from the government and no financial investment Chief minister Raghubar Das , who was present during the signing of MoUs, said: “These NGOs have come forward with innovative ideas that could transform the face of education in the state. From early introduction of skill education among schoolchildren to the use of mobile apps for improving the quality of teaching, they have brought innovations, which is more important than any financial investment in the sector.”The first MoU, signed by the Maharashtra-based Lend-A-Hand India and the state school education department will focus on developing a skill-based education curriculum for the students in secondary and senior secondary classes. “The initial target for 260 schools will be expanded to all 6,000 schools with secondary section in the state in the coming years. The students will be trained in multi-skill vocational courses and will also be provided career counselling,” said Lend-A-Hand India director Raj Gilda.The other two MoUs were signed with the Gujarat-based Teachers App and Piramal Foundation. Teachers App will provide online teaching aids through a customized mobile application to the schoolteachers in the state and Piramal Foundation will work on overall improvement of the learning outcomes in the schools across Jharkhand.State education minister Neera Yadav said: “The department of school education has worked extensively on development of the infrastructure in schools across the state.
