Approach road to Vidhan Sabha to get Rajpath-type makeover

RANCHI: The state road construction department plans to develop the approach road to Vidhan Sabha as a ceremonial road on the lines of Rajpath in New Delhi. "Engineer in-chief of the road construction department Rash Bihari Singh said the proposal for construction of the road has been sent to Greater Ranchi Development Authority (GRDA) for its approval. "The 500 metre-long road will have a 22-metre carriageway which will serve the purpose of a parade track. A provision of a 10-metre wide raised footpath on either side of the road will serve the purpose of a gallery during ceremonies and functions.There is also a provision for a 4.85 km-long four-lane road on the periphery of the Vidhan Sabha. This apart, beautifying the vicinity of the road with plantations is also in the cards.

The road will connect Vidhan Sabha and the new Jharkhand high court building being constructed at Jagannathpur area.Department secretary K K Soan said, "The plan is to develop the road in a way where parades can be organised just like it is done on Rajpath in New Delhi with a place for people to sit and enjoy on the side of the road."The 500 metre-long road will have a 22-metre carriageway which will serve the purpose of a parade track. A provision of a 10-metre wide raised footpath on either side of the road will serve the purpose of a gallery during ceremonies and functions.There is also a provision for a 4.85 km-long four-lane road on the periphery of the Vidhan Sabha. This apart, beautifying the vicinity of the road with plantations is also in the cards. Soan said, "The entire project cost is estimated to be Rs 75 crore."Engineer in-chief of the road construction department Rash Bihari Singh said the proposal for construction of the road has been sent to Greater Ranchi Development Authority (GRDA) for its approval. "Once we have their nod, the work would start. The total time for completing the project is estimated to be around eight months," said Singh."The process of floating and finalising the tender would take around two months while the construction work is estimated to be completed in six months," said Singh.One of the officials from the department said if things go as planned, people will be able to witness a grand Independence Day celebration at the newly-constructed ceremonial road from the next year.
