RANCHI: Announcing a series of benefits for safai karmis (sanitation workers), chief minister Raghubar Das on Tuesday said the perks were doled out to motivate them towards making Ranchi, other cities and towns of the state the cleanest in the country.Das announced the benefits while addressing hundreds of safai karmis of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) at the Nehru stadium in Dhurwa. He promised to equip RMC officials with walkie talkies on the lines of supervisors in Indore - currently the cleanest city in the country.The promised perks include registration of the workers under the Jharkhand Nirman Karmkar Board, which comes with a host of benefits like providing for education of their wards, increased wages and health cover. Das also said a one-month wage bonus would be given if they could make their area of work rank among the top three list in the next swachchata survey. He also said the government has been planning several more welfare measures for them."The state government has decided to register the safai karmis under the Jharkhand Nirman Karmkar Board. It will benefit them in the form of many schemes," Das said, highlighting that sanitation workers of the state-run medical colleges in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad and district hospitals would also be covered by the schemes.
