300 extra cops to man Ranchi streets

RANCHI: Ranchi police have been provided with additional personnel to curb the rising crime in the state capital.Notably, the state capital witnessed a series of murder and incidents of loot in the recent past. A man identified as Budhu Das was gunned down near the official residence of chief minister Raghubar Das in Kanke Road in the first week of September. Director general of police D K Pandey had on Saturday issued directives to police superintendents of all districts, asking them strengthen town police outposts. "The additional manpower will help strengthen our force and increase police presence across the city. "The investigation is being done by the district police while CID is assisting them.

A man identified as Budhu Das was gunned down near the official residence of chief minister Raghubar Das in Kanke Road in the first week of September. Last Friday criminals shot dead a rice trader, Narendra Singh Hora, in the heart of the state capital and fled with his money.Even as police claimed that security has been beefed up across the city, miscreants looted cash from an employee of a gas agency under the Argora police station on Sunday.Top officials at the police headquarters on Sunday issued a notification transferring 300 personnel to maintain law and order in the state capital. The police personnel have been transferred to Ranchi from Latehar, Garhwa, Simdega, Gumla, Lohardaga, Chaibasa, Palamu, Giridih, Chatra, Koderma, Pakur, Godda, Sahibganj and Jamtara districts.In addition, around half a dozen inspectors, who have served in the state capital in past, have been brought back.Sources in police said the additional police personnel will be used to activate town police outposts and give support to the existing strength at different police stations.There are 30 town outposts in the city out of which 20 are not functioning due to lack of manpower. The inspectors are replacing five officers against whom police administration have taken action recently," Ranchi SSP Anish Gupta said.Senior police officers, including additional director general (CID) Ajay Kumar Singh and the Ranchi deputy inspector general Amol V Homkar on Sunday visited the spot where trader Narendra Singh Hora was shot dead last Friday.Speaking to media persons after inspecting the site, Singh said CID was gathering information regarding the crime. Suspected people have been taken into custody and are being interrogated, he added."The investigation is being done by the district police while CID is assisting them. The works of police officers of Ranchi district and the CID have been determined and all of them are working round the clock in the case," Singh said.More than 150 businessmen from Sikh community along with representatives of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI), the Gurudwara Guru Singh Sabha and opposition political party leaders took to the streets to protest the killing of a city-based trader, Narendra Singh Hura, on Friday night even as police investigations into the crime are under way.Hura was gunned down by three motorcycle-borne criminals near Roshapa tower along the Mahatma Gandhi Road around nine on Friday night when he was returning home after closing his shop in Upper Bazar area.
