RANCHI: Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das on Sunday announced that his government will give jobs to 1 lakh people by January 12 next year.The CM said his government’s objective was to impart skill development training to the state’s young men and women. “Thirty-four thousand people have already been given employment earlier. Now, we will give jobs to 1 lakh more by January 12,” Das said. However, the CM did not specify whether his government will achieve the target by creating new employment opportunities or filling up vacant posts across different departments of the government.Das attended the launch of a program aimed at creating awareness for eradicating child labour from the mica mining industries in Koderma. The program was organized by Kailash Satyarthi Children Foundation. Satyarthi, a Nobel peace prize winner in the year 2014, was also present at the event.Opposition parties had on different occasions criticized the government and claimed its statistics on providing employments were concocted. The Congress had said most of the youth, who were given employment outside Jharkhand through the state-sponsored skill development programs, had returned within months as the remunerations were to low for self-sustenance.The state government will also distribute appointment letters to 10,000 teachers on statehood day on November 15, he added.Das also emphasized on his government’s focus on eradicating child labour and said the state had passed a law to declare the practice illegal. Stating that child labour’s roots lay in poverty, Das said his government’s efforts to drive out poverty was tasting success to an extent. “We want a state where every child becomes literate and gets nutritious food,” he added.Outlining the steps taken to curb child trafficking, Das said he has instructed the state’s social welfare department to set up a cell that will document and monitor the placement agencies which take youth and women outside Jharkhand by promising them employment.
