IOCL's chief divisional retail sales manager (Jharkhand) Shyamal Debnath said the infrastructures will be extended from Bokaro, Ramgarh and Hazaribag cities to other parts of the districts gradually. "The whole project is likely to cost Rs 600 crore," he added.Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally lay the foundations of these projects via remote telecast from New Delhi on November 22. Union minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha and chief minister Raghubar Das are expected to be present at Hazaribag and Dhanbad on that day.CGD was launched on a pilot basis in Ranchi and Jamshedpur earlier this year. Being set up by GAIL, the network is expected to become operational by March next year. More than 55,000 households will be given PNG connections by the year 2024, GAIL officials said. The IOCL and GAIL bagged the work contracts at the 9th bidding round organised by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PGNRB). The work contracts for setting up CGDs in 86 locations in 174 districts across were given away in the bidding, IOCL officials said.CGD is being promoted by the Union ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas as a clean energy compared to petrol, diesel and LPG. While PNG is currently pricey than LPG in many cities, including the national capital, petroleum companies are hopeful that the project will pick up in Jharkhand because of convenience and transparency. "It will be supplied to homes and will be metered. A customer will pay for what he uses," Harish Deepak, chief area manager of Indane in Jharkhand, said. Two areas of Jharkhand, namely Seraikela-Kharsawan and West Singbhum will be up for bidding when the 10th round kicks off from November 22. "The areas, termed as geographical areas, have been identified based on consumer densities," Deepak added.
