Bypoll bugle for panchayat, municipal bodies

Ranchi: The state election commission (SEC) on Tuesday notified bypolls for 2,104 vacant posts in various local governance bodies (panchayat and zila parishad levels) across all districts and five posts in four civic bodies falling in two different districts. "The entire polling process will begin on November 22 and end on December 23," he said.Coming to the panchayat polls, elections will be held to fill 1,956 vacant posts of panchayat members, 57 mukhiyas, 88 panchayat samiti across 1254 gram panchayats and three zila parishad members respectively .Similarly, bypolls for municipal bodies will be held for Mihijam Nagar Parishad (Jamtara) and Adityapur Municipal Corporation, Kapali Nagar Parishad and Seraikela Nagar Panchayat - all under Seraikela-Khersawan district. A total of five posts - one vice chairman (Kapali Nagar Parishad) and five posts of ward councillors in each municipal body, barring Kapalai Nagar Parishad will be filled.About polling booths, Pandey said that for three-tier panchayat polls, a total of 3,683 polling booths will be set up across 2,749 buildings. Counting will take place on December 22 from 7am-3pm.Symbols will be allotted on December 4 from 11am onwards.

The SEC has also imposed model code of conduct in the concerned places with immediate effect.State election commissioner N N Pandey on Tuesday said that the notification for polls on official gazette will take place on November 22 while polling will take place on December 19. About other crucial dates, he said that last date for filing nomination is November 30, scrutiny on December 1 and nomination withdrawal is by December 3 - all to be done between 11am and 3pm. Counting will take place on December 22 from 7am-3pm.Symbols will be allotted on December 4 from 11am onwards.
