Ranchi: The matriculation and intermediate examination of Jharkhand Academic Council will begin on Wednesday. About 4.41 lakh students will write the Class X examination while 3.15 lakh students will sit for their intermediate examination in 1,395 centres across the state till March 9. JAC chairperson Arvind Prasad Singh on Tuesday said all the examination centres will be under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. “The preparations are complete at all the exam centres. The work of installing CCTV cameras in remaining exam centres will be completed by Tuesday evening.”The matriculation (Class X) examination will be conducted between 9.45am and 1pm while the intermediate (Class XII) examination will be held between 2pm to 5.15pm. Students will be allotted a grace period of 15 minutes to read the question papers before they can write their exams, JAC sources said.With 39,861 candidates, Palamu has the largest number of students appearing for matriculation while the number of intermediate examinees is largest in Ranchi with 37,330 students scheduled to write their exams. Sources in JAC said around 1.86 lakh students who are taking their intermediate examination are from the humanities stream while commerce and science streams have recorded 35,046 and 94,310 examinees this year.The state school education and literacy department had earlier asked JAC to simultaneously conduct evaluation of answer scripts this year as soon as an examination is over, but the Board has failed to make any arrangements in this regard.“Since the exam centres and evaluation centres are the same, it is logistically impossible to start checking answer scripts simultaneously at the end of each exam. But we will start the process as soon as the answer sheets reach the treasury,” Singh added.JAC ran into a controversy last year after results of intermediate humanities stream were delayed by at least a month and was published in June, following which several students missed their deadline for filling up admission forms of major universities, including the Delhi University.
