RANCHI: Former chief minister Hemant Soren will go “live” on Twitter on March 13 and participate in an interactive session as part of a series being hosted by the global social media giant.Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) said Soren will be the third politician in India to participate in the programme, which is titled “Chaupal On Twitter”. The programme was launched in January this year. Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and former Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav have participated in such events recently.Speaking to TOI from Mayurbhanj in Odisha on Sunday, JMM spokesperson and its Baharagora MLA Kunal Sadangi said the venue for the programme will be a banquet hall in Harmu. “Hemant ji will take questions from the Twitterati and hear the problems being faced by the people of Jharkhand,” Sadangi said. “This is the first time that a politician from Jharkhand will take part in such an event,” he added.The session will be broadcast live through Soren’s Twitter handle.Soren, who joined Twitter in 2018, has 11,000 followers on the micro-blogging site. Akhilesh has 9.18 million followers while Tejashwi has 1.53 million followers, respectively. Hemant’s father Shibu Soren also has a Twitter handle with 1,329 followers.“Social media played a significant role in shaping the outlook of citizens in 2014 elections. Our party could not match the might of BJP in social media back then. This time, we are prepared,” a senior JMM leader said.
