Poaching fears in PTR ahead of Holi

On Monday, two Parhaiyas tribals were arrested with one deer head, cooked deer meat and blood stained utensils. Daltonganj: Foresters have intensified patrolling in Palamu Tiger Reserve ahead of Holi with villagers, especially those belonging to primitive and vulnerable tribes, likely to indulge in hunting deer and other animals for their meat during the festive season. Ashok Kumar, ranger in charge of Betla under PTR , said “ Our team also seized a gun from the houses of Ramdev Parhaiya and Jhamman Parhaiya.” Sources said deer meat sells for about Rs 60 per kg in villages. They had allegedly killed a deer and distributed its meat among locals at Salaiyya village.
