Ranchi: Nearly 40 rappers from all over Ranchi have come under the banner of Ranchi Hip Hop to share their art and bare their heart this election season. Sometimes sarcastic and sometimes hard-hitting, these songs are a fine commentary on life in general and politics Rap songs have gained popularity all the more because of the awareness they are creating. While some raps are satires on corrupt politicians, others question our wisdom in selecting leaders. From Baba Ram Rahim to Madhu Koda , all find place in these raps. They really do not need a stage to get themselves heard. Through the YouTube they are telling stories for change.Meeting every Saturday, the young singers—between 15 and 30—share their poetry at Oxygen Park at Morhabadi. Nothing misses their scathing attack as they rise from the streets and back alleys to tell stories. “We write what we see, and we mean what we write. Rapping is the only art form that gives us the liberty to be who we are and speak our minds,” said Ishaan, who is better known as MIC, and has been rapping for the last five years. He has been instrumental in bringing the rappers together.Aviraj, a Class 10 student who uses the name of Maya, is one of the youngest members. For him, every rap song is based on his personal experiences. “I remember walking past the Nucleus mall where mannequins are dressed in fancy attires. But the street children at the entrance are in tatters. This contrast has inspired me to raise questions on the basic set-up of society.”“Main bata raha sacchai wo bhi apni beat pe, Janta nahi samjhegi bhai, Janta hamari dheet hai’ (I am just telling the truth on a beat but the public is too stubborn to understand and admit its mistake).” His classmate, Aaditya (Trippy) has already collaborated on a hip-hop music video on this subject. Each rapper has his own YouTube Channel. But now they are planning to collaborate for more videos in the coming weeks. Apart from Hindi, the raps are also in English and Nagpuri . Divyanshu Soni, who is a student of Class 9, uses the stage name YoungGun to rap in Nagpuri.“Ever since we have come together, we have woken up to many harsh realities of life. Raps of Tabish Ali and Piyush Mukherjee make us look at things with a new perspective. We have a member, Paramjeet Munda ( BlackBoy ), a college drop-out who shared with us the eye-opening fact that street children sniff glue to kill hunger. If such issues do not move us then what would,” wondered Ishaan.BlackBoy writes, “Baaton me meri bas sacchai ka zikar; Jaale toh jale tu par tera bhai befikar (my words are the truth, and I don’t care if it makes you jealous).”
