58 ‘dilapidated’ booths relocated in Ranchi

Ranchi: The district administration on Wednesday notified the change of 58 booths to new locations across six Vidhan Sabha constituencies in Ranchi. The changes were made owing to the dilapidated condition of the existing buildings or the location of booths on the first floor.Talking TOI, Ranchi district public relation officer Prabhat Shankar said: “These booths are being relocated to nearby locations as the buildings where they are located in are not in good condition. Of these, 11.07 lakhs are male and 10.18 lakhs are female voters. This time, around 21.25 lakh voters have registered themselves in the district. “The voters in these booths will be informed about the change in booths through various methods so that they have no difficulty is casting their votes on the polling day,” he added.While the Lok Sabha elections will be held in four phases across the state, Ranchi will vote on May 6.

In booths which were on the first floor, the structural strength of the stairs is a concern as they have to be fit enough to bear the load of voters standing in lines for long hours.”Most of these relocations have been notified in Hatia with 15 booths, followed by Mandar and Khijri Vidhan Sabha areas with 14 each respectively.The least number of changes are in Ranchi Vidhan Sabha, where two booths in State Harijan School in Garikhana have been moved to Rajyakrit Urdu Middle School at Pahari Tola. A total of 11 booths in Kanke and four booths in Tamar have also been moved under the initiative.The district administration is focusing on improving the polling numbers of disabled voters and the change of the booths on first floor to other locations is aimed at making them more accessible.“Building ramps till the first floor is a problem and hence, booths on the first floor have been shifted in some locations,” said Ranchi DC Rai Mahimapat Ray . “The voters in these booths will be informed about the change in booths through various methods so that they have no difficulty is casting their votes on the polling day,” he added.While the Lok Sabha elections will be held in four phases across the state, Ranchi will vote on May 6.
