65-year-old held for attempting to rape eight-year-old girl

RANCHI: A 65-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for attempting to rape an eight-year-old girl under Kanke police station area. The survivor later narrated the incident to her mother, prompting the latter to file a police complaint.“The accused attempted to rape the girl but could not succeed,” Rural SP Ashutosh Shekhar said. He assaulted the girl when she visited him. The arrestee, Bhuneshwar Ram, is a retired employee of Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry and Allied Sciences.Police said the accused persuaded the girl, who lived in his neighbourhood, to come to his house on Tuesday evening. Police have registered a case under Section 8 of POCSO Act.
