Garhwa: Hospitals in Garhwa district are facing an acute shortage of tetanus injections for the last two months, giving a tough time to people who require the shots.Even many private medical stores have exhausted their stocks, and the few which have tetanus injections are selling them at inflated prices.According to sources, one vial of tetanus injection containing 10 doses of 5ml is currently being sold at private medical stores at Rs 100, while the actual price is only Rs 26.13.Suresh Keshri, who got injured in a road mishap last week, said, “I had to buy the tetanus shot from a private store, as the injection was not available at the Garhwa sadar hospital.”Dr Amit Kumar, a surgeon at sadar hospital, said, “Patients may suffer from fatal diseases, if tetanus injection is not administered on time.”Dr Mehjabee Yamani, a gynaecologist, said, “Pregnant women need to be administered tetanus injection before delivery, otherwise it may imperil the lives of both the mother and the child.”When contacted, Dr N K Rajak, chief surgeon of Garhwa sadar hospital, said, “Supply of tetanus injections has been stopped by the health department as it has been decided that they will be replaced with an injection named TD (Tetanus and Diphtheria).”“We have already sent the requisition to health department and are waiting for the consignment.
