Will use tribal art forms to aware voters: State ‘icon’ Mukund Nayak

Ranchi: Padma Shri Mukund Nayak , who has been nominated by the Election Commission (EC) as the state icon for 2019 general elections, said on Friday that he has chalked out a detailed plan to motivate voters. He said that being an artist, he will try to inspire people in an innovative manner.Talking to TOI, he said, “I thank the EC for making me the ‘state icon’ this year to spread awareness about voters’ rights and duties. Some of the names are, Rani Mistri and Sunita Devi from Latehar, Madhumita Kumari from Ramgarh, and Anwar Sheikh from Sahebganj, among others. Seventeen among them are sportspersons. It is important for the people of Jharkhand, especially those living in remote areas, to come out and cast their votes to elect an able leadership.”Nayak added, “Besides Hindi and English, I will reach out to the tribal and rural communities through local languages and traditional art forms.”“I will host programmes at traditional local akhadas (meeting places), which are the centre of cultural activities among rural communities,” Nayak said.The EC also named 32 people as district icons on Thursday evening.
