Train passengers upset as demands remain unfulfilled

Jamshedpur: With most of their demands unfulfilled in the last five years, train passengers in Steel City have expressed disappointment with the outgoing BJP MP Bidyut Baran Mahato . All pending demands will be taken up in the second term of the Narendra Modi government, he said. “The train to Jaipur should run at least three days a week,” Moonka said. The local Punjabi community’s long-standing demand to increase the frequency of the Tatanagar-Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh express has also not been fulfilled. “Mahato had assured us that the frequency of the Amritsar train would be increased as talks with the then railway minister Suresh Prabhu were positive, but nothing has come through,” said Satnam Singh, a functionary of the Sikh Youths Federation.The demand to start an express train from Puri to Ajmer Sharif via Tatanagar has also not been realized.

Their main demands included introduction of new coach trains and increasing the frequency of the existing trains .Vijay Anand Moonka, former member of Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee, said: “Our demand to increase the frequency of the Tatanagar-Yesvantpur train to three days a week and converting the Tatanagar-Alleppey express to a full rake haven’t been fulfilled.”A growing number of the students travelling to southern states for pursuing professional courses and people with health complaints travelling to leading hospitals in Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru. As of now, the Yesvantpur train leaves Tatanagar every Friday while the Alleppey plies all days of the week with half rake up till Rourkela station where it attaches with the coaches of the Dhanbad Alleppey express.Another demand for the introducing a direct train to Jaipur from Tatanagar has been met partly as the said train was introduced in 2017 as a weekly summer special. “The train to Jaipur should run at least three days a week,” Moonka said. The local Punjabi community’s long-standing demand to increase the frequency of the Tatanagar-Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh express has also not been fulfilled. “Mahato had assured us that the frequency of the Amritsar train would be increased as talks with the then railway minister Suresh Prabhu were positive, but nothing has come through,” said Satnam Singh, a functionary of the Sikh Youths Federation.The demand to start an express train from Puri to Ajmer Sharif via Tatanagar has also not been realized. Along with the complaints, commuters have maintained that the foundation of the Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Jugsalai railway crossing is one big demand likely to be realized.Mahato, who is in the fray for the second term from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat, said the under-construction ROB was a demand of the local people since the 1970s. “No previous government approved the ROB project but our government did,” he said, adding that another such ROB will soon be built at Govindpur at a cost of Rs 45 crore.Mahato said a few other passenger amenities-related works such as introducing escalator and steel chairs at Tatanagar have been installed with MP LAD funds. All pending demands will be taken up in the second term of the Narendra Modi government, he said.
