Ramgarh DC sets 24-hour deadline for arms surrender

Ramgarh: Deputy Commissioner Rajeshwari B on Saturday gave a 24-hour ultimatum to licenced firearm holders to surrender their weapons at police stations or else face punitive action. Surrendering of arms is a mandatory process for verification before elections and only security personnel are exempted. She said a special camp was organised at Cantonment Board of Ramgarh for enrolment of about 700 service voters of Sikh Regimental Centre (SRC) and Punjab Regimental Centre (PRC) in the district.Ramgarh, which is part of Hazaribag parliamentary constituency, will go to the polls on May 6. However, out of the 342 licenced firearm holders in the district, only 187 have so far submitted their weapons, an official in the district administration said.“We are giving a 24-hour ultimatum to the remaining 155 firearms holders to surrender their weapons at local police stations, failing which legal action will be initiated against them,” Rajeshwari said at a media conference here.
