Statehood activists threaten economic blockade from Dec 16

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Andolankari Sangharsh Morcha (JASM), an outfit of the activists who fought for the creation of the state, on Saturday announced a two-day economic blockade from December 16 in support of their long pending demands.The founder and secretary of the JASM, Pushkar Mahto, said all vehicles, barring those that are plied under emergency services, should not run during the stir.We appeal to all groups and outfits to join hands for the cause of scores of activists who played a role during the statehood movement and to ensure the states pride (Asmita), he added.Pushkar said they have been demanding a monthly honorarium of Rs 50,000 to each of the identified statehood movement activists, the implementation of the Samta judgement, 26% royalty on mining resources, among others.While 23 years have passed since the formation of Jharkhand, most of those who toiled hard with their sweat and resources for a separate state are living in neglect as successive governments failed to provide them with a respectful livelihood.
