2 from West Bengal held for running online lottery racket

Ranchi: Two natives of Nadia district in West Bengal were arrested on charges of running an online matka (lottery) racket near Vidyanagar Colony under the Sukhdeonagar police station limits on Saturday, police said.Kotwali DSP Prakash Soy said the arrested were identified as Arijit Sen and Subhajit Chatterjee. Five CPUs, four desktops and as many thermal printers, three keyboards, eight mouses, among other electronic items were seized from the accused.DSP Soy said, Police received a tip-off on Saturday that the two were luring people by promising them high returns in the lottery. The bill replaces the previous tax on Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) and requires registration of promoters and agents with the government. The driver claims that another vehicle suddenly came in their way, causing the accident. The cars owner has been summoned to verify the drivers claims. The police have slapped a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and are collecting evidence, including the cars black box data and CCTV footage, to establish the cause of the accident.
