Old coaches, steam engines to add colour to Dhanbad stn heritage park

The clocks that were used in railways 100 years ago are also being repaired for the park. A crane, used during the British period, has been brought from Rampurhat in West Bengal, painted and beautified for the project. It is being developed into a cafeteria at the park. A road roller equipped with a steam engine is also expected to be a big draw at the park.Saloons which were used by the British officers will also be part of the collection. A few such saloons are with the Eastern Railways and approval for their transfer has already been given by the Railway board.Umbrella fitted cycle trolleys, which were used to inspect the track, have been brought from Samastipur in Bihar.Special attention is being given to designing the wooden coaches so that the interiors replicate the look of coaches of the British era.

Dhanbad: A new heritage park is being developed by Dhanbad rail Division near Barmasia, where old and obsolete wooden coaches and steam engines will be on display for visitors and antique lovers.Senior divisional mechanical engineer of the carriage and wagon wing, R D Maurya, said the park will have a collection of old machines and equipment which are not used now.The wooden coach which used to ply on the narrow-gauge railway track between Hatia and Lohardaga in 1913 has been brought to the park.The proposal for developing the heritage park was approved in December 2016 and since then Maurya has started collecting coaches and engines from scrap yards of different rail divisions.Some of the attractions include a coach, which was lying in a dilapidated condition for many decades in Barwadih.
