Rs 55,000 collected in 4 days from underage drivers in Ranchi

The drive was also conducted near Gossner College, Ranchi Women's College (RWC), St Paul's school, St John's school, Surendranath Centenary School and Oxford Public School.Not only under age drivers, but adult drivers without helmets and registration papers also became a target of the traffic police. "At least 55 students were caught violating traffic rules," the DSP said.

RANCHI: Nearly 400 parents of minors driving two wheelers were summoned by the traffic police and asked to sign a bond agreeing to be held responsible if their wards were spotted driving without helmet and licenses.Traffic officials said a total of Rs 55, 000 fine was collected as fine from parents of under age riders who were spotted without helmets and licenses. Even insurance and pollution certificate papers were missing, police said."We have warned parents of their license cancellation is such an offence is repeated," traffic DSP Radha Prem Kishore, who carried out the drive in and around the education institutes recently, said. "We have also found that minors often go for rides at night without informing their parents. As per the Motor Vehicle Act Rule, driving under the age of 18 is an offence. However this rule is brazenly violated by the minors," he added.This drive against under age drivers by the traffic department began on April 16 at Satellite Colony and Shyamli Colony, close to Delhi Public School and JVM Shyamali. The drive was also conducted near Gossner College, Ranchi Women's College (RWC), St Paul's school, St John's school, Surendranath Centenary School and Oxford Public School.Not only under age drivers, but adult drivers without helmets and registration papers also became a target of the traffic police. A total of Rs 6 lakh was collected as fine from them, police said.According to Kishore, maximum number of violators were found near Satellite Colony. The number was considerably less at Shyamli."At least 55 students were caught violating traffic rules," the DSP said.
