Stir against Adani project spreads across Godda

Armed with traditional weapons, protesters waved black flags and shouted slogans against the ongoing land acquisition process for the power project.Godda deputy commissioner (DC) Bhuwanesh Pratap Singh said the district administration is keeping a close watch on the agitation. Singh said women and children were mostly roped in by the protesters to resist the administrative move and the government employees entrusted with demarcation of land falling under the project area at different places. "The administration has no intention of having a confrontation with protesters," Singh said, adding that the last phase of demarcation of the land will be completed on April 21.Another section of the population, comprising mostly the owners of the land acquired for the power project, launched a campaign to counter the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik's (JVM-P) protest movement."Those protesting against the power project do not represent the original stakeholders as the original land losers have already given their consent to part with their lands. They have also been holding parallel meetings to demonstrate their solidarity with the project," Singh said. He added that pro-power plant project meetings were held in more than 10 villages under the project area on Wednesday and Thursday.JVM-P leader and Poraiyahat MLA Pradip Yadav has been on an indefinite hunger strike along with other supporters at Gayghat panchayat, demanding that the ongoing land acquisition process be cancelled."We have not arrested Yadav yet — who has non-bailable arrest warrant issued against him — to avoid conflict with his supporters," police said.A Godda court issued the warrant against the MLA for reportedly inciting violence during a public meeting at Motiya village on March 5. The administration on Thursday lodged another FIR against the JVM-P leader for reportedly using loudspeakers and telecasting films at the venue of the stir beyond the stipulated time.
