RANCHI: Quality of education in the state came in for some criticism as experts from various fields brainstormed on means to improve the academic standards. Former foreign secretary Muchkund Dubey said at a conference on quality of education in Jharkhand , that simplicity and equality in education is a must to ensure efficacy of academics.Dubey, an education expert, was speaking at the conference on quality of education in Jharkhand organized on Friday by an NGO-Life Education & Development Support (LEADS). "Education is only relevant when it maintains a high quality. Without quality education, it becomes meaningless for professional and personal growth. The right to education is a fundamental right and that is achieved only through a high quality academic system. Questions are raised on quality education and one of the major reasons for these apprehensions about our academic standards is globalisation and liberation of global economy. This is leading to the commercialisation of our education," said Dubey. He added, "The main objective of education is the ability to distinguish between right and wrong and the capability of protesting against what is wrong in this system. Without ensuring equality in education for all, it is impossible to maintain good quality in education. Our academic system should be all inclusive and should also help us keep high moral standards only then academics will help in our all-round development."Showcasing initiatives taken up by the state government principal secretary of school education and literacy, Aradhana Patnaik said, "The state government has come up with several projects to strengthen the basic infrastructure for education in Jharkhand. We have started the Extent, Equity and Excellent (EEE) concept where 280 high schools are being upgraded to Plus Two schools. Girl students from our schools are also making their mark in national and international competitions. For the girl students of scheduled tribe and scheduled caste, the chief minister has launched a financial assistant programme under which Rs 2000 is being deposed in the girl students' bank account which the students can access when they reach class 9."
