Congress MLA resigns in Meghalaya

“His (Danggo’s) resignation letter has been accepted,” said home minister James Sangma. Now, both Congress and NPP have 20 members each in the House. SHILLONG: Hinting at brewing dissent in Meghalaya Congress party MLA and former assembly speaker Martin M Danggo resigned from the primary membership of the party and also the assembly late on Thursday night.Interestingly, Danggo sent his resignation letter to deputy speaker Timothy D Shira at his official residence through an NPP legislator. He added that the senior Congress leader, who had represented the Ranikor assembly constituency in the West Khasi Hills district for several terms, would join the National People’s Party (NPP).With Danngo’s resignation, the strength of Congress, which was the single largest party in the state, has been reduced to 20.
