Central government staff take to the streets

SHILLONG: Central Government employees in the state, under the banner of the Meghalaya State Coordination Committee of CG Employees and Workers, raised slogans against the alleged "anti-workers attitude" of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre and demanded that their minimum pay be raised. "Our main demands were scrapping of Contributory Pension System, enhancement of minimum pay and Fitment Formula, among others," he added.The protest rally was attended by workers' unions and associations of various central government establishments in the city. "The Protest Demonstrative Rally also unanimously resolved to request the leadership of NJCA to revive its earlier indefinite strike call in all central government departments in the country if the Centre does not accept the 10-point charter of demands," Das asserted. "Following the agitation call given by the National Joint Council of Action (NJCA), a united platform of central government employees of the country, central government employees of Meghalaya have observed an All India Protest in front of the General Post Office, Shillong ," said Jayanta Lal Das, president of the Meghalaya State Coordination Committee of CG Employees and Workers. "The protest day is being organized to press upon the Union Government of India to settle a 10-point charter of demands, which includes enhancement of minimum pay, scrapping of new pension scheme, immediate implementation of assurance given by a group of central ministers in 2016 to NJCA leaders on various demands relating to the 7th Central Pay Commission , etc," Das said.
