GUWAHATI: A photo gallery of all Assam governors, who have served the state since 1947, was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the conference hall of Raj Bhavan Friday.Purohit, who was former Assam Governor, expressed his gratitude for having been invited to launch the photo gallery and hailed the efforts of his successor Jagadish Mukhi for having conceptualized the photo gallery.The gallery would give the future generation an opportunity to know about the rich legacy of Raj Bhavan, Assam and all the governors who served the state, Purohit said.The Assam Governor said that he had seen photo gallery of the governors in Raj Bhavans of the other states and therefore, he thought that Assam Raj Bhavan should also have one.Since 1947, 26 governors have served Assam and their portraits are now placed in the conference hall of the Raj Bhawan.Former Meghalaya Governor Ranjit Shekhar Moosahary, former Bihar and Tripura Governor Devananda Konwar, Assam Chief Secretary Alok Kumar, Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia, Secretary to Assam Governor Sanjib Kumar Gohain Barua, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University Prof Mridul Hazarika and officers of Raj Bhavan were present at the inaugural function.
