SHILLONG/KOHIMA: Almost 1.5 lakh children in Meghalaya have been vaccinated against measles and rubella till October 1, officials in the health department have said. The vaccination programme, which was launched in the state on September 24, aims to cover 13 lakh children who are between 9 months and 15 years."Till October 1, the MR vaccine has been administered to 1,40,577 children. A total of 13 lakh children between 9 months and 15 years of age are to be vaccinated in the state," a health department official said. Pravin Bakshi, who is the secretary of the health and family welfare department and the director of National Health Mission, Meghalaya, said, "The coverage was the most impressive in East Jaintia Hills district where 41% were vaccinated. This was closely followed by West Khasi Hills district at 22%. In West Jaintia Hills district, all children from 32 schools have been vaccinated - the most till date. The figures for Garo Hills region are also promising as many urban schools have reported 100% immunization."Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday launched the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign in the state. The programme aims to cover 4.72 lakh children.
