Meghalaya has a budget of 1.5 crore for National Games

SHILLONG: Meghalaya has a tentative budgeted outlay of Rs 1,505 crore to prepare for and conduct the National Games in 2022, officials in the state sports and youth affairs department said. Formed following a notification in July 2017, the committee has the director of sports and youth affairs as its chairperson. "A team preparation committee will identify players and look after other logistical requirements. Different government agencies and corporate organizations are expected to contribute funds for the event. The official also informed that under 'Mission Football', which was launched on July 22, 2017, 5060 children are being trained in in different grassroots centres across the state.

Different government agencies and corporate organizations are expected to contribute funds for the event."Funds for the event will be sourced from Union ministry of youth affairs and sports, Union ministry of development of north eastern region (DoNER) and other related ministries besides the North Eastern Council and corporate social responsibility sponsorships," an official said, adding that preparations for organizing the National Games are already underway.The official added that the government is taking initiatives to promote and support local athletes leading up to National Games 2022. "A team preparation committee will identify players and look after other logistical requirements. Formed following a notification in July 2017, the committee has the director of sports and youth affairs as its chairperson. It also comprises officers from the department of sports and youth affairs and members from State Olympic Association," he informed.The team preparation committee, in consultation with respective state sports associations, is preparing a blueprint for identifying probable players, coaching requirements, equipments , scientific backups and technical personnel, the official said, adding that the consolidated proposal would be submitted to the government. The official also informed that under 'Mission Football', which was launched on July 22, 2017, 5060 children are being trained in in different grassroots centres across the state.
