Police Commemoration Day held in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Police on Sunday paid tributes to police martyrs by observing the 59th Police Commemoration Day at East Khasi Hill's DEF Police Reserve here.Addressing a gathering at the event held at Police Reserve, East Khasi Hills superintendent of police Davis R Marak said altogether 414 security personnel laid down their lives for the country between September 1, 2017, and August 31, 2018, including one martyr from Meghalaya, BNC/609 Samin Hassan.Marak read out the list of paramilitary forces and police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty in different parts of the country.A statement by DGP RP Agarwal issued on the eve of the Police Commemoration Day said, "Meghalaya Police till date lost 125 men while maintaining law and order and security of nation".The DGP said in his statement, "On this solemn occasion, we pledge to continue to serve the people of the nation with dignity, commitment and dedication and to maintain public order and integrity of the nation".DGP RP Agarwal and other senior police officers laid floral wreaths at the martyrs' memorial erected inside the Police Reserve.
