He also criticized Meghalaya governor Tathagata Roy over his support for calls of boycotting ‘everything Kashmiri.’“The Pulwama attack on security forces was executed by terrorists and not by innocent Kashmiris or Muslims. “While religion can not be a basis of granting citizenship, the BJP-led government was going to do it to divide the people for their political gains. “Hindutva and religious polarization are vote-bank politics that BJP has been playing. “When the need of the hour is to stay united in the fight against terrorism, they are dividing the people of the country for own political gains, which the terrorists want. It was a handiwork of the enemies of the nation.

GUWAHATI: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury has blamed the Modi government’s ‘indifference’ to Kashmir in the last five years for ‘increase in secessionist tendency’ among people in the Valley. While accusing the ‘saffron alliance’ for allegedly inciting attack and hatred against Kashmiris in the aftermath of the attack on a CRPF convoy, Yechury called the recent spate of violence unleashed on the Kashmiris in several parts of the country a part of ‘political polarization’ agenda of the RSS and BJP. He also criticized Meghalaya governor Tathagata Roy over his support for calls of boycotting ‘everything Kashmiri.’“The Pulwama attack on security forces was executed by terrorists and not by innocent Kashmiris or Muslims. It was a handiwork of the enemies of the nation. At a time when the entire country was condemning the attack in one voice, why to incite hatred against the people of Kashmir as a whole,” questioned Yechury, while speaking at a function organized by the Assam state committee of the CPM here on Friday to mark the concluding ceremony of the year-long celebrations of 200th anniversary of Karl Marx.He said during the rule of the current NDA government in the Centre, terrorist attacks in the country increased four times and the loss of lives of security forces and civilians due to militancy has gone up three-fold. “When the need of the hour is to stay united in the fight against terrorism, they are dividing the people of the country for own political gains, which the terrorists want. The government is destabilizing the country following the Pulwama attack,” added Yechury.Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that security forces have been given a free hand to make sure that a befitting reply is given to Pakistan for the mayhem in Pulwama, Yechury questioned why the situation in Kashmir has turned more violent when BJP has been at the helm of power in the Centre for the last five years. The veteran Left leader alleged that the BJP-led government has launched a scathing attack on the democratic setup of the country to realize its ‘Hindu Rashtra’ dream. “Hindutva and religious polarization are vote-bank politics that BJP has been playing. Under the present situation, the call of the hour is to oust them from power,” he said.He added that the citizenship bill issue, which had kept the state politics on the boil for months, was a ‘mischievous tactic’ to break the solidarity of the people. “While religion can not be a basis of granting citizenship, the BJP-led government was going to do it to divide the people for their political gains. At a time when the government itself endorsed the Assam Accord to deport illegal migrants (with 1971 as the cut-off year), how can the BJP national president announce that if they come to power, the bill will be passed by violating the accord,” he questioned.
