Indian Meteorological Department Predict Heavy Rainfall in Next Few Days in State

A CorrespondentSHILLONG: After a spell of unusually hot weather in the State, Meghalaya has been hit by monsoon causing widespread rain in most places. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall which is likely to occur at isolated places in the State on July 11 and 12. According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, people are advised to take extra care during heavy rainfall as there is likelihood of flash flood, especially in areas near the rivers and streams. Students have also been advised not to cross rivers and streams during heavy rain and tourists visiting the tourist spots should not venture into streams, rivers and waterfalls. A Correspondent SHILLONG: After a spell of unusually hot weather in the State, Meghalaya has been hit by monsoon causing widespread rain in most places. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall which is likely to occur at isolated places in the State on July 11 and 12. Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and CEO DDMA, East Khasi Hills district has issued a advisory to the public. According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, people are advised to take extra care during heavy rainfall as there is likelihood of flash flood, especially in areas near the rivers and streams. The district authorities have also warned that people are not to venture near the waters or walk through moving water and to stay away from streams, drains and culverts. “People are advised not to drive through flooded areas and to stay away from electric poles or power lines to avoid electrocution,” the East Khasi Hills district administration said. Students have also been advised not to cross rivers and streams during heavy rain and tourists visiting the tourist spots should not venture into streams, rivers and waterfalls. It may be mentioned that, according to the IMD between June 1 and July 8, the deficit in rainfall has been 37 per cent in Meghalaya. Cherrapunjee recorded 165.2 mm of rainfall on July 8.
