Three persons die in Lumshnong road mishap Meghalaya

A CORRESPONDENTSHILLONG: Three persons, who hid themselves between bitumen drums, died after the truck carrying them met with an accident on Saturday. According to Meghalaya Police, the truck bearing registration NL-02-N-4222 capsized and turned turtle at Lumshnong near the Forest Inspection Bungalow. Police said that there were only two occupants in the truck (driver & helper) when it entered Meghalaya but four persons boarded the truck somewhere between Deinchynrum and Byndihati. To avoid detection, these persons were hiding among the loaded bitumen drums on the back side. One was immediately rescued by Lumshnong Police, but he later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital,” Police said.

During inquiry, it was found that truck was coming from Beltola, Guwahati and was heading to Mizoram. Police said that there were only two occupants in the truck (driver & helper) when it entered Meghalaya but four persons boarded the truck somewhere between Deinchynrum and Byndihati. To avoid detection, these persons were hiding among the loaded bitumen drums on the back side. “Two of them died on the spot. One was immediately rescued by Lumshnong Police, but he later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital,” Police said. Police further informed that the fourth person could be rescued alive after a six hour long rescue operation which was extremely tough because of the heavy rain and thunderstorm on Saturday. “He has been referred to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment,” police added. The driver and his helper have been arrested and a case registered. investigation is going on.
