100 million years old fossils of Sauropod dinosaur bones have been found from an area near the West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. The conclusion of the researchers has not been published yet. Researchers from the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Northeast palaeontology division, concluded this after their recent visit to the site.

GSI researchers noted that this is the first time that remains of a sauropod possibly of Titanosarian origin have been found in the area. The sauropod has a long neck, long tail, head shorter than the rest of the body, four thick and pillar-like legs.

Arindam Rai, senior geologist of the palaeontology division at GSI, said GSI in Meghalaya had also found dinosaur bones in 2001, but their condition was so bad that their taxonomic identification was not possible. He said that the bones identified this time were found in 2019-2020 and 2020-21, which are estimated to be around 100 million years old.
