Meghalaya received 731 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Friday, taking the active cases tally past the 8000 mark to 8025.

The state`s death toll mounted to 544 after 20 people succumbed to the deadly virus on Friday.

The north-eastern state has received 33,835 total cases so far.

The cumulative recoveries reached 25,266 after 941 under-treatment patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24-hours.

The new cases of infection include 346 from East Khasi Hills 147 from Ri-Bhoi, 69 from West Garo Hills, 32 from West Jaintia Hills, 27 each from West Khasi Hills, South West Garo Hills and East Jaintia Hills, 21 from Southwest Khasi Hills, 15 from East Garo Hills and 11 from South Garo Hills, the health official informed.

The East Khasi Hills, including state capital Shillong, has been the most affected district with 3,884 active cases and 445 deaths, followed by Ri-Bhoi with 1310 active cases, West Garo Hills 654 and East Jaintia Hills 641, while the seven other districts have less than 500 active cases.

Meanwhile, chief minister Conrad K Sangma visited three facilities that will be converted to COVID Care Centres in the city on Thursday.

The basic Training Centre at Malki will be turned into a medical facility with a capacity of around 100 beds for the treatment of coronavirus-positive patients.

Industrial Training Institute at Rynjah will have 45 beds when it will be converted to a temporary COVID care facility, while the District Commerce and Industries Centre at Nongrim Hills can accommodate around 60 beds.
