An FIR has been registered against Meghalaya`s ruling National People`s Party (NPP) MLA from the North Tura constituency, Thomas Sangma

An FIR has been registered against Meghalaya`s ruling National People`s Party (NPP) MLA from the North Tura constituency, Thomas Sangma. The victim lodged an FIR in Shillong, accusing NPP MLA Thomas Sangma of rape. The victim alleged that Thomas Sangma had raped her on several occasions by falsely promising to marry her.

Thomas Sangma is also an advisor to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

The victim alleged that Thomas Sangma used to rape her at her residence or in a hotel in Shillong. The victim alleged that she was first raped by Thomas Sangma at a hotel in Shillong. She said that Thomas Sangma had threatened her to not go to the police and promised to marry her.

The victim said in the FIR that "I agreed to have sex with him, but I never knew that he was desperate to have sex with me only to satisfy his lust and on the pretext of getting married. " The victim alleged in her FIR that NPP MLA Thomas Sangma was raping her from January 2020 till April 17 this year on the pretext of marrying her.

East Khasi Hills District Superintendent of Police S Nongtnger said that a woman lodged an FIR this evening accusing the NPP MLA of rape. The police official said that the investigation is on and the police will register a case against the MLA based on the FIR.

Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh has now demanded the North Tura MLA’s removal from Assembly Committee on estimates.
