BJP to engage private agency to assess the win ability of candidates in Meghalaya

GUWAHATI: Not taking any chance in the selection of candidates in boll bound Meghalaya BJP will engage a private agency to assess the win ability of a candidate in next year's assembly poll in Meghalaya.BJP plans to contest all the 60 seats in the state. A senior congress leader said, "Some leaders are likely to leave the party and we starting early will ensure that we get serious candidates only." Shah is likely to visit the state soon. "Amit Shah will visit Meghalaya shortly. Lyngdoh said, "We are having core committee meeting and will finalise strategy for the polls.

A team comprising state BJP head Shibun Lyngdoh, Edmund Sangma Sarwan Jhunjhunwala and Bianca Kyndiah is in New Delhi to finalise election strategy after discussions with party president Amit Shah and other BJP leaders including Ram Madhav, Himanta Biswa Sharma and Nalin KohliShibun Lyngdoh told ET, "We will engage a private agency to assess the win ability of a candidate before giving party ticket. As of now, we will do this exercise for all the 60 seats."Amit Shah will visit Meghalaya shortly. Lyngdoh said, "We are having core committee meeting and will finalise strategy for the polls. Shah is likely to visit the state soon. We are preparing to fight all the 60 seats."Already Opposition parties United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People's Democratic Party ( HSPDP ) have stitched pre poll alliance.Both the parties are likely to contest around 36 assembly seats spread across Khasi and Jantia hills in 2018 assembly polls.UDP is member of BJP floated platform of non-congress parties, Northeast Democratic Alliance (NEDA). National People's Party (NPP) which is member of NEDA is yet to open its cards on pre poll alliance with BJP in Meghalaya, NPP is part of BJP leader coalition ruling Manipur.Congress is ruling the state, presently UDP has 9 MLAS and HSPDP has four MLAs.Congress which is battling anti-incumbency and riddled with dissent is also getting poll ready.Meghalaya Pradesh congress committee (MPCC) has kick stared the electoral process with application form for candidature being already floated. This process will continue till September 15.Congress has revamped the block level congress committees. A senior congress leader said, "Some leaders are likely to leave the party and we starting early will ensure that we get serious candidates only."
