The Kangra district police conducted a survey on the road accidents in the area, and found that there is a set pattern and  around 60% of these accidents occur between 4PM to mid night. And most of these are either due to over speeding or under the influence of intoxication.

Giving details of it SSP Santosh Patial told PTI,” we found that 37% accidents occur in the time period between 4PM to 8 PM and the police has come up with a special campaign to check the motorists during this period. 257 dunked drivers were challenged and recommended to the respected RTOs to cancel their driving licenses.”

He further added that during this special campaign which early this year 10336 two wheelers were fined for driving without helmets, 155 motorists were fined for over speeding, 572 for negligence driving, 180 for using mobile while driving and 3957 for not using seat belts.

Patial said , “ Rs 77, 81, 000/- were collected  as fine under motor vehicle act by Kangra police from 32646 drivers since January this year.”

SSP said police has identified few black spots on the roads of the district and asked the concerned departments to improve them to avoid accidents.

Patial said, “ Under the forest, act cases were registered against 12 persons for illicit falling of Khair and Deodar trees and  in 79 cases registered under  NDPS act this year in the district 81 persons were arrested and 181 persons were arrested in 180 cases registered excise act.”

SP said that during the current year cases against 410 were registered undermining act and collected a sum of Rs 20,79,500/- as fine till date. 16 illegal crushers were also seized.”
