By: Aakriti SehraLUDHIANA: The much publicized air service to Kullu and Shimla from the city, which was to be started by Deccan Airways from the second week of June, could not start, thereby dashing the hopes of city residents who were waiting anxiously for this service to start. According to AN Sharma, director of Ludhiana airport : “The air service from Ludhiana to Kullu and Shimla, which was scheduled to begin from 15 June, has not started yet. Once the dates are finalized by the flight operator, we will let the public know.”The development has disappointment citizens, because vacations are about to end, and the service has not commenced yet. BRS Nagar resident Onkarpreet Singh said: “Me and my family were waiting for the service to begin, as it would have been convenient for us to enjoy our holidays, but on the contrary, the service got delayed, dashing our hopes, and we had to again go all the way to Delhi, and then to our final holiday destination. This is disappointing, as there is no benefit of having an airport in the city.”Civil Lines resident Somya Joshi said: “We call Ludhiana a smart city, and being a smart city, connectivity to different parts of the nation is necessary, be it related to business or for holiday. It’s disappointing that even after having an airport in the city, we have to either go to Chandigarh or Delhi to travel to any other city/state. There’s no point in making announcements and not fulfilling them. I hope the government and the authorities start working towards bringing their words into action soon.”Rajguru Nagar resident Rajveer Singh said: “It takes 12 hours to go to Manali, and the travel is long and tiring. If the service had started, the time would have reduced to two hours, cutting down the travel. I hope the service starts as soon as possible, because this is going to be of great benefit to residents of Ludhiana.”
